Field hockey: Warriors rout Danbury
The Wilton High field hockey team scored its second lopsided win in four days by routing Danbury 7-1 on Tuesday in Danbury.
The Warriors improved to 9-4-0-1 overall, and 9-3 in the FCIAC. They are currently fifth in the FCIAC playoff standings with 18 points — four points behind Darien, two points behind Greenwich and Norwalk, and one point behind Staples.
Next up is a big game on Friday (4 p.m.) at home against Norwalk (12-1), followed by the regular-season finale next Tuesday at home against Trumbull. Tuesday’s game will also be Senior Night, with a ceremony to honor the team’s 10 seniors at 5:45, followed by the game at 6.
In the win at Danbury, Jess Hendry had a pair of goals, with single tallies from Molly Thomas, Sophia Kaplan, Sophia Kammerman, Emma Rothkopf and Robin Clasby. Olivia Hahn had two assists and Rothkopf one assist.
Ava Oliveira scored for the Hatters, off an assist from Grace Keefe. Brooke Donaty (three saves) and Ivana Ituahene (nine saves) each played a half in goal for Danbury.
Megan Kaeyer had one save for Wilton.
In Saturday’s 7-0 over Stamford at home, Rothkopf led the offense with two goals and three assists, with Hendry also scoring two goals.
Hahn, Kammerman and Thomas each had one goal, and Kaplan had two assists.
