Darien routs Wilton boys lacrosse team, 17-6

On its unexpected run to a Class M state championship last season, the Wilton High boys lacrosse team defeated the defending champion, Darien, in the quarterfinals.

Having moved up a division to Class L, Wilton won't be meeting the Blue Wave in this year's state tournament. And following Thursday night's regular-season game between the teams, Wilton may not mind that development.

Laying siege to the Wilton goal with a barrage of shots, Darien routed the Warriors, 17-6, in Darien.

It was the fifth consecutive loss for Wilton, which fell to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the FCIAC.

The unbeaten Blue Wave (6-0, 4-0 FCIAC) were ahead 6-2 after one quarter and 9-3 at halftime. Darien then boosted its lead to 14-4 by outscoring Wilton, 5-1, in the third quarter.

Charles McGovern had two goals to lead the Warriors. Harrison Bardwell, Dan Baird, Michael Lynch and Brendan Devane added one goal apiece.

Peter Lindley scored four goals for Darien, which outshot Wilton, 48-23.
