Cross country: Wilton girls third, boys 10th at FCIAC championships

The Wilton High girls cross country team finished fifth and the Wilton boys were 10th at the FCIAC championship meet Thursday at Waveny Park in New Canaan.

The Wilton girls had 74 points to finish behind Ridgefield (52 points) and Staples (57).

Two Warriors placed in the top-10 overall as Sarah Healy was fifth and Mary Lynch eighth with respective times of 14:45 and 15:12 for the 2.5-mile course.

Freshman Olivia Bernardini (15:38) finished 14th, followed by Keiley Gaston (17th, 15:52) and Larkin Brown (38th, 16:38) to complete the Wilton scoring.

Meanwhile, the Wilton boys had 278 points to finish 10th, four points behind ninth-place Trumbull and eight points behind eighth-place Norwalk.

Ridgefield dominated the competition, placing first with 27 points to easily beat runner-up Darien (59 points) and give the Tigers a sweep of the boys and girls titles.

Justin Hoelzl led Wilton with a 36th-place overall finish in a time of 17:20 for the 3.1-mile course.

Teammate Spencer Brown was one spot back, placing 37th in 17:23.
