The Wilton High boys and girls cross country teams followed a similar scenario in Tuesday’s season-opening meet at Allen’s Meadow.

Both squads had close losses to Fairfield Warde and victories over their other two opponents.

The WHS boys fell to Warde, 25-30, but defeated Fairfield Ludlowe, 24-31, and St. Joseph, 24-31.

Meanwhile, the WHS girls were edged by Warde, 27-31, but easily bested Ludlowe, 18-39, and St. Joseph, 16-47.

Wilton junior Spencer Brown, the reigning Class L state champion, was first overall in the boys’ meet with a time of 17 minutes and six seconds for the 3.15-mile course.

Justin Hoelzl also had a top-10 finish for the Warriors, as he placed sixth in 18:33.

Kristian Langholm (11th, 19:11), Will Hoffmann (12th, 19:23) and Nathan Briglin (18th, 19:50) also factored in Wilton’s team score.

In the girls’ race, Wilton had three of the top-four overall finishers. Sarah Healy was second in a time of 16:16 for the 2.5-mile course, followed by teammates Mary Lynch (16:24) in third place and Olivia Bernardini (16:48) in third place.

Keiley Gaston (17:33) was 11th and Kate Williams (18:35) 16th to complete the Wilton scoring.

Warde’s Cate Allen won the race by nearly a minute, finishing in a time of 15:19.
