Cross country: Lynch paces sweep for Wilton girls

Led by a first-place overall finish from Mary Lynch, the Wilton High girls cross country team swept a regular-season meet on Tuesday at Allen's Meadow.

The Warriors defeated Darien, 24-35, and Trumbull, 19-42, and also picked up a forfeit victory over Norwalk.

Lynch covered the 2.5-mile course in a time of 15 minutes, 29 seconds to finish first overall by 20 seconds. Trumbull's Katelynn Romanchick was second in a time of 15:49.

Wilton's four other scoring runners also finished in the top-10 overall. Morgan McCormick was third (16:24), Lilla Seymour seventh (16:57), Nina Mellin eighth (17:08) and Elizabeth Lynch ninth (17:17).

Three other Warriors — Emma Snyder (11th, 17:32), Macallan Fox (12th, 17:35) and Elizabeth Healy (13th, 17:40) — were in the top-15 overall.

Meanwhile, the Wilton boys team won one of three head-to-head contests, despite having the first two individual finishers.

The Warriors defeated Norwalk, 18-43, but lost to Trumbull and Darien by identical scores of 25-36.

Wilton's Justin Hoelzl was first overall in a time of 16:44 for the 3.1-mile course. Teammate Aaron Breene was the runner-up in 16:58.

But there was a gap of 17 places between Breene and the next Wilton finisher, Flynn Crowther, who was 20th overall (19:12). Patrick Moore (21st, 19:12) and Erik Danvers (24th, 19:18) also contributed to Wilton's team score.
