Spencer Brown's second-place overall finish provided the chief highlight for the Wilton High cross country teams at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship meets, which took place Monday at Waveny Park in New Canaan.
The Wilton girls were fourth in the team standings, while the Wilton boys were 10th.
Brown, who had a subpar 37th-place finish last year, was the runner-up in the boys race Monday. He had a time of 15:34 for the 3.1-mile course.
Brown was 47 seconds behind Darien's Alex Ostberg, who finished first in a course-record time of 14:47.
Brown was the only runner in the top-30 overall for Wilton, which finished with 267 points.
The Wilton girls had 88 points to place fourth behind Staples (37 points), Ridgefield (73) and Darien (81) in the team standings.
The Warriors had two of the top-five overall finishers, as Mary Lynch was fourth (14:54) and Olivia Bernardini fifth (15:09) over the 2.5-mile course.
Also placing in the top-30 overall for Wilton were Lilla Seymour (23rd, 15:53) and Meaghan Downey (27th, 16:00).
Hannah DeBalsi of Staples defended her individual title, finishing first overall in 13:37. Her time was eight seconds slower than last year's, which was a new course record. Three other Staples runners also placed in the top-10 overall.
