There will be a somberness to the Wilton High football team’s season opener against Fairfield Warde at Veterans Stadium on Friday night.
At 6:30 p.m., a ceremony to honor the man for whom the football field is named will take place. A stone with commemorative plaque on it placed within the Circle of Honor at the south end of the field will honor late WHS football coach Tom Fujitani.
Fujitani, who passed away April 2, served as head coach of the Warriors for 32 years, from 1969 to 2000, and compiled an overall record of 163-147-0.
He guided the Warriors to two state championships and to their only FCIAC title in 1988.
His death this past spring dealt a blow to those who knew him and the thousands of students his life impacted. Tom Fujitani. Old School. Rest in Peace.
