Brown wins, leads Wilton boys track at Open

Spencer Brown kept his post-season winning streak intact on Monday at Willow Brook Park in New Britain.

Brown, a senior at Wilton High, ran to first place in the boys 800-meter race at the State Open meet with a time of 1:55.16, just ahead of runner-up Kristian Sogaard of Ridgefield (1:55.24).

The victory was the fourth in three post-season meets for Brown, who had earlier finished first in the 400 at the FCIAC championship and in the 800 and the 1600 at the Class L state championship. Brown set new meet records in the 800 and the 1600 at the Class L competition, and broke the Wilton High record in the 400 at FCIACs.

Brown nearly became a double-winner at the State Open meet, as he placed second in the 1600 with a time of 4:17.25. Randall Neish of Glastonbury was first in 4:16.86.

With his first- and second-place finishes, Brown contributed 18 of Wilton's 23 points, leading the Warriors to eighth place in the team standings with 23 points.

Hunter Shipp added four points for Wilton by finishing fifth in the shot put with a toss of 51'6.25".

The Warriors' final point came from Aaron Breene, who was eighth in the 800 with a time of 1:58.94.

Notes: Windsor won the boys State Open title with 57.50 points. Danbury was second with 39.50 points and Hillhouse-New Haven third with 37.50 points.

The top-eight finishers in each event scored points.

The Wilton girls did not score any points at their State Open meet, which also took place Monday at Willow Brook Park.

Tolland won the girls team championship with 52 points, two more than second-place Windsor. Staples was third with 47 points.

Individuals and relay teams earned spots in the Open by meeting qualifying standards at the four class meets.
