Boys swimming: Several Warriors reach Class L finals

Ten members of the Wilton High boys swim team advanced to the Class L championship meet by placing in the top 24 at Saturday’s preliminaries, held at Kennedy High School in Waterbury.

The finals, consolation finals and C finals, originally scheduled for Tuesday, have been moved to today (at Wesleyan University) due to tomorrow’s forecast for snow.

Three Wilton swimmers qualified for the finals today in two events each after top-eight finishes on Saturday.

Will Suchy was third in the 500-yard freestyle and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, while Gordon Steward was sixth in the 200 free and seventh in the 500 free. Jack Lewis placed sixth in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.

Harrison McCool and Kyle Wilson both qualified for the consolation finals in two events each. McCool was 12th in both the 200 free and 100 free, while Wilson took 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 15th in the 100-yard individual medley.

Wilson had a big meet, moving up eight places in the 200 IM and six spots in the breaststroke, and dropping more than three seconds off his season-best times in both events.

Two other Warriors made it back to today’s C finals in two events each. Matt Martin was 19th in the 200 free and 22nd in the 500 free, and Ryan Looney finished 17th in the 200 IM and 23rd in the 100-yard backstroke.
