Boys hockey: Late goal gives Newtown tie with Wilton
Two unanswered goals in the third period — the second with 17.5 seconds to play — gave the Newtown boys hockey team a 3-3 tie with Wilton on Saturday at the Danbury Ice Arena.
Neither team scored in the overtime period.
The Warriors (0-1-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Joey Cullinan and Ned Zawislak. Newtown scored off a scramble in front with eight seconds left in the period to cut Wilton's lead to 2-1 after 15 minutes.
Cullinan scored on a tip-in off assists from Zawislak and Jameson Hill in the second period to put the Warriors ahead, 3-1.
But the Nighthawks then scored twice in the final period to get the tie.
Jack Walsh and Cullinan also had assists for Wilton.
