Big inning powers Wilton past Staples, 9-1

A nine-run sixth inning broke open a scoreless game, leading the Wilton High baseball team to a 9-1 victory over Staples on Friday in Westport.

The outburst provided more than enough support for Wilton's JT Morin, who pitched a complete-game three-hitter.

With the teams tied 0-0, Wilton (6-1) sent 14 batters to the plate in the top of the sixth. Scott Shouvlin and Jackson Ward each had two-run doubles for the Warriors, and Dillon Lifrieri drove in another run with a double. Staples also committed two errors and its pitchers — four total in the top of the sixth — walked three batters.

Morin held the Wreckers (5-3) to a single run, which came on a single in the bottom of the sixth. He struck out six batters.
