Bennett a nominee for HAN Network's Players of the Week

An impressive effort in a victory over Bridgeport Central last Friday has put Wilton High girls volleyball player Natalie Bennett among the nominees for the HAN Network’s Athletes of the Week award.

As the official broadcasting partner of the FCIAC, the HAN Network each week will recognize two Athletes of the Week, one male and one female from league schools.

Bennett had 16 service points, including 10 aces, and six kills in the Warriors' 3-0 win over Central.

Darien High swept last week’s HAN Network FCIAC Athlete of the Week voting, as Blue Wave soccer player Jack Kniffin and field hockey player Marissa Baker topped the poll. Kniffin drew 34% of the 1,962 votes cast on the boys’ side, while Baker accrued 33% of the 2,253 votes cast for Female Athlete of the Week.

The HAN Network sports staff nominates male and female candidates each Monday. The winners will then be chosen in an online poll and saluted on the FCIAC Gameday program, which airs two hours before the HAN Network football game of the week on Friday or Saturday. Voting this week closes at noon Friday, Oct. 2.

This week’s winners will be announced as Gameday leads up to the HAN Network’s coverage of Fairfield Warde vs. Staples in FCIAC high school football, live on the HAN Network this Friday. FCIAC Tailgate starts at 4 p.m., followed by FCIAC Gameday at 5, with the kickoff live at 7 p.m.

The HAN Network, formerly known as Hersam Acorn Newspapers, is the exclusive FCIAC broadcast partner through the spring of 2018. HAN Network’s broadcasting division replaces with a new focus on live video streams of high school athletics along with the HAN Network’s news and lifestyle programming.
