Baseball: Ward's single, Blond's arm lead Wilton past Greenwich

Jackson Ward's single in the top of the ninth inning scored Ed Petrillo with the winning run as the Wilton High baseball team edged host Greenwich, 2-1, on Thursday.

It was the second straight victory for the Warriors, who are now 5-6 this season.

JT Morin led off the ninth inning with a double for Wilton. Pinch-runner Petrillo then moved to third on Jason Rothstein's sacrifice bunt before scoring on Ward's RBI single.

Wilton got a stellar pitching performance from Trevor Blond, who went the distance, allowing just three hits. Blond retired Greenwich in order in the bottom of the ninth to seal the win.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Alex Jacobson's RBI single, but Greenwich (6-4) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
