An unearned run in the top of the first inning held up as the St. Joseph baseball team edged host Wilton, 1-0, on Monday afternoon.
It was the second straight setback for the Warriors (4-3), who were coming off a 3-1 loss to Greenwich last Friday.
Wilton's Glenn O'Brien was the tough-luck loser despite pitching a complete-game two-hitter. O'Brien walked one and struck out four.
The Cadets (3-2) got the only run in their first at-bat. With two outs, Neil Velasquez reached on an infield error, stole second, and scored on Mike McKernan's double.
The Warriors put runners on base in every inning against St. Joseph pitcher Connor Hurley but couldn't deliver a clutch hit.
In the bottom of the fifth, Drew Connolly had a two-out double for Wilton, but Hurley retired the next two batters on a strikeout and a groundout, respectively, to end the threat. Then, in the bottom of the seventh, Hurley hit O'Brien with a pitch and allowed a two-out single to Jack Looney before getting the final out on a comebacker to the mound.
Hurley finished with a six-hit shutout, walking one and striking out four.
