Scoring 10 runs over two innings, host New Milford pulled away to defeat the Wilton baseball team, 11-6, in a Class LL state tournament quarterfinal game Saturday morning.

Derek Profita supplied the key hit, a grand slam homer off Wilton starter Billy Black in the bottom of the fifth. Profita's blast was part of a six-run rally that saw fourth-seed New Milford take a 7-2 lead. The Green Wave then added four runs in the bottom of the sixth — two coming on Jackson Olson's triple — to go ahead 11-2.

Wilton, the 21st seed, staged a mini-comeback in the top of the seventh. Jack DiNanno's RBI single scored Matt D'Elisa, who had led off with a double, and a wild pitch and two errors produced two more runs, getting the Warriors within 11-6. But New Milford pitcher Tyler Hansen held Wilton from there, finishing his complete-game victory and ending Wilton's season.

After New Milford took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the second, the Warriors tied the score on a passed ball in the top of the fourth. Wilton then went ahead, 2-1, when Glenn O'Brien delivered an RBI single.

But the advantage was short lived, as New Milford responded with its six-run outburst in the bottom of the inning.

Notes: Black, who had pitched a three-hit shutout in Wilton's 3-0 win over Cheshire in the first round of the tournament, took the loss. He pitched four and two-thirds innings before being relieved by Jack Mastrianna, who went the rest of the way for the Warriors.

New Milford (21-5) will play top-seed Amity in the Class LL semifinals on Tuesday. Amity is the three-time reigning state champion.

Wilton finished the season with a 13-10 record.
