The Wilton High football team came back from two seven-point deficits to edge host Guilford, 21-20, in the season opener for both teams Thursday afternoon. With the game tied 14-14, Wilton took the opening kickoff of the second half and embarked on a drive that culminated in John D'Elisa's four-yard touchdown run for a 21-14 lead. Guilford quarterback Joey Nault ran 51 yards for a touchdown with 11:44 left in the fourth quarter, but Nault then missed the extra point, keeping the Warriors ahead by one. Wilton was able to hold Guilford scoreless the rest of the way to get the victory in the non-conference game. After Guilford scored on the game's opening drive, Wilton quarterback Brett Phillips answered on a one-yard touchdown run with 5:54 left in the second quarter to knot the game at 7-7. \u00a0Rod Djoly-Thorby's recovery of a fumbled punt on the Guilford 14-yard-line set up the score. David Knapp's six-yard scoring run gave Guilford a 14-7 lead with 58 seconds left in the half, but the Warriors tied the game on D'Elisa's one-yard run with 15 seconds remaining. The touchdown followed a 72-yard pass completion from Phillips to Dan Baird.
