The Week 4 winners announced during HAN's FCIAC Tailgate show on Saturday: Bridget Mulloy of Staples field hockey and Adrian Chung Wilks of Westhill boys soccer. The Week 5 winners (voting will be open until Friday at noon) will be announced on FCIAC Tailgate on Friday, October 21, at 5:15 p.m. — before the Greenwich vs. New Canaan football game that night. HAN-FCIAC Female Athlete of the Week Nominees Meredith Pellegrino, Brien McMahon volleyball: Meredith Pellegrino finished with 32 kills to lead the Senators to a 3-2 win over Staples High. Pellegrino had 12 digs and 10 service points, as McMahon improved to 11-1 overall and 8-1 in the FCIAC. Jessica Mazo, St. Joseph soccer: Mazo assisted on all three goals as the Cadets defeated two previously unbeaten teams. Mazo set up both St. Joseph goals in a 2-0 triumph over Westhill and then sent a free kick that Lindsey Savko converted for the lone goal in the Cadets' 1-0 victory over Ridgefield. Kendall Curtin, New Canaan girls soccer: Curtin made seven saves as New Canaan handed the Ridgefield Tigers their first loss of the season, 1-0, Thursday at Conner Field. Curtin, a junior, made her biggest play in the final minute when she punched away the ball on a great free kick by the Tigers. New Canaan improved to 5-3-4 this season and is in eighth place in the FCIAC standings. Ellery Baran, New Canaan field hockey: Baran racked up five points on one goal and four assists as New Canaan knocked off FCIAC playoff contender Trumbull, 6-2, last Tuesday at Dunning Field. With the game tied at 1-1 early, the Rams closed the first half with three straight goals, and Baran netted one and had assists on the other two. She added two more helpers in the second half. Morgan McCormick, Wilton cross country: The Wilton High girls cross country team claimed its first East Division title in six years by winning two of three races last Tuesday in Greenwich, in the final race of the regular-season. The Warriors (13-2) were led by junior Morgan McCormick, who won the 2.9-mile race in a time of 7:57.87, breaking the course record at Tod's Point Park. HAN-FCIAC Male Athlete of the Week Nominees Brandon Holtzclaw, Westhill football: Holtzclaw recorded 5 sacks in the Vikings’ 21-0 victory over the Ludlowe Falcons on Saturday. Westhill had a total of 8 sacks but it was Holtzclaw’s performance that stood out as Westhill’s defense led the Vikings to their 2nd win of the season. Kevin Iobbi, Greenwich football: Iobbi rushed 41 times for 247 yards and four touchdowns as the Cardinals won a high-scoring game with the Trumbull Eagles, 42-32, Saturday at GHS. Iobbi scored on three short runs — twice for one yard and once for three yards — and put the icing on the cake with a 59-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Corey Babineau, St. Joseph football: Babineau went 24-35 throwing for 268 yards and 3 TDs and added one more on the ground accounting for all 4 of St Joseph’s Touchdowns in their 31-15 victory over the 3-1 Wilton Warriors. St Joseph improved to 4-1 on the season and moved up to 4th in the CIAC Class M standings. David Summers, Fairfield Warde football: David Summers threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score to lead the Warde to a 36-28 victory over previously unbeaten Warren Harding (4-1).
