The Wilton softball team, coming off a poor performance last week in a 17-0 loss against Trinity Catholic, gave a better effort in Monday's 8-1 loss to Danbury at home.

The game was scoreless at the end of three innings. Danbury loaded the bases in the first but didn’t score, as catcher Lizette Roman-Johnston picked off a runner at third for the third out to end the threat.

The Warriors loaded the bases in the third with a hit by pitch, a single by Julia Schiavone and a walk, but Wilton couldn’t get a timely hit to push a run across home plate.

Danbury (12-5) broke through for two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings off Wilton starter Daria Acosta-Rua to take a 4-0 lead. Wilton scored its only run in the sixth on a single by Acosta-Rua and three consecutive walks, with Schiavone getting credit for the RBI.

Danbury added four more runs in top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

The loss drops the Warriors to 2-14, with three games left on the schedule.
