Wilton's Sam Blicht earns all-region honors in women's lacrosse

Former Wilton High standout Sam Blicht was one of six members of the Franklin & Marshall women’s lacrosse team to be named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWCLA) All-Metro Region Team.

Blicht, a junior defender, was a first-team selection for Franklin & Marshall, which is currently ranked third in the country among Division III schools.

The 2012 WHS grad was also named first-team all-Centennial Conference, as she led the team in ground balls (31) and caused turnovers (20). She helped the Diplomats captured the conference title with an 8-6 win over Gettysburg in the championship game.

Last weekend, F&M improved to 18-2 on the season with a 21-3 win over Rhodes College in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Diplomats take on Tufts this weekend in the regional semifinals.

At Wilton, Blicht was a first-team all-FCIAC player her senior year, and helped the Warriors win back-to-back FCIAC championships in 2010 and 2011. She also earned second-team all-state honors two years. She also was a two-time first-team all-FCIAC player in ice hockey.

She started 19 games as a freshman at F&M, and as a sophomore started 21 games and earned second-team all-CC honors.

This season she has started in 18 games and was part of a F&M defense that led the conference in total caused turnovers with 192 and was second in ground balls (330).

Notes: Franklin & Marshall also features 2011 Wilton graduate, Christie Huidekoper, a senior midfielder who has played in 12 games this season.
