Last season it took the Wilton High girls varsity soccer team six games to collect its first win; this year the Warriors put one in the win column in their season opener.

The Warriors posted a convincing 3-1 victory over the Darien Blue Wave on Wednesday afternoon at Kristine Lilly Field.

Lauren Kozakiewicz gave her team a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when she got a step on a defender and sent a shot ipast the surging Blue Wave goalie. Co-captain Casey Pearsall assisted on the goal with a long pass to the rushing Kozakiewicz.

Wilton took the 1-0 into the halftime break, but Darien knotted the game at 1-1 in the 47th minute on a penalty kick resulting from a Wilton foul just inside the box

Wilton regained the lead for good just 14 seconds later. The Warriors took the ensuing kick-off down the field with several quick passes, with Jayne Maccio finding Lindsay Knutson for the score.

The Warriors closed the scoring with 10:51 left to play. Wilton took the ball the length of the field for the score with Ali Furlo feeding Pearsall, who found the back of the net.

Liz Forster was solid in net for the Warriors, recording four saves in her first start as the team’s regular goalie. Forster got great support from a defense that held the Blue Wave in check for most of the contest, led by co-captain Nicki Rutishauser, Megan Boepple and McKenna Pearsall. The trio played the entire game on the back line.
