Wilton girls soccer team routs Central, clinches FCIAC sixth seed
On Senior Night, the Wilton High girls soccer team routed Bridgeport Central, 8-0, in the regular-season finale Thursday evening at Kristine Lilly Field.
With the victory, the Warriors secured the sixth seed in the FCIAC playoffs.
Wilton (9-3-4) will play third-seed Ridgefield (11-2-3) in a quarterfinal game on Saturday at 2:30 in Ridgefield. Wilton defeated the Tigers, 5-1, earlier this season.
On Thursday night, when the Warriors honored 10 seniors, the home team put away Central early.Co-captains Casey Pearsall and Tegan Helms connected in the first minute of play for the 1-0 lead. Helms lined a corner kick into the box to an open Pearsall, who put it in the net.
Senior Katherine Vincent made the score 2-0 in the fifth minute, assisted by Helms. Twenty-six seconds later, Vincent returned the favor and assisted on a goal by Helms to up the lead to 3-0.
Cecily Freliech made it 4-0, and Vincent pushed the lead to 5-0 with her second goal to end the scoring for the first half.
The Warriors added three more scores in the second half.Goalie Liz Forster netted her second goal of the season, assisted by freshman Jillian Lauricella. The ever-enthusiastic Allie Furlo made it 7-0, assisted by Jayne Maccio. Lauricella closed the scoring with a goal for the 8-0 final.
Senior Lydia Freliech sang the National Anthem to get the evening started.
