The Wilton High girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season Friday night by defeating the host New Canaan Rams, 43-32.

The Warriors are now 1-1 on the season and hit the court again next Monday night against Masuk.

Wilton and New Canaan played to a draw in the first quarter with the score tied at 8-8.The Rams, who pressed the inbounds pass for the entire game, hit a shot just before halftime to take a 20-19 lead into the break.

The Warriors opened the second half with a 5-0 run to regain the lead and went on to outscore the Rams, 16-3, in the third quarter to open a 35–23 lead.

Wilton matched New Canaan in the final period, prohibiting the Rams from getting back in the game.

The Warriors were led by Erin Cunningham with 12 points. Freshman Karen Brosko, making her varsity debut chipped in eight points, followed by Haley English and Erica Meyer with seven points each.

Brosko started in place of Casey Pearsall, who was in New York City for the Wendy’s High School Heisman awards ceremony.

"Brosko earned the chance to start for her effort in practice this week and played a solid game. She is just another one of our young players who gives our program depth and a foundation for the future,” said Wilton head coach Jaclyn Porco. “We still have a lot of room for improvement, but it’s good to put one in the win column.”
