Wilton girls hoop team hands Stamford first loss

In its best performance of the season so far, the Wilton High girls basketball team traveled to Stamford on Tuesday night and came away with a convincing 65-35 win over the previously undefeated Black Knights

It was the ninth consecutive win for the Warriors, who are now 11-2 overall and 9-2 in the FCIAC.

Stamford dropped to 12-1 and 10-1 in the conference.

Wilton held a 15-9 lead after one quarter and then pulled away in the second quarter by outscoring Stamford, 20-4, to take a 35-13 lead at the half.

Wilton got balanced scoring with four players in double digits. Erin Cunningham and Erica Meyer led the way with 14 points each, and Casey Pearsall and Haley English chipped in with 10 points each. Alyssa Malvarosa added  nine points.

Pearsall added 11 assists and seven rebounds; Malvarosa had nine boards; and Meyer contributed eight boards and five assists.
