Brett Phillips scored on a 29-yard touchdown run and then threw for a two-point conversion with 2:12 remaining, lifting the Wilton High football team to a 35-28 victory over host Bridgeport Central on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Central got inside the Wilton 20 on the ensuing possession but was unable to score.

Short touchdown runs by Mike Burns and Patrick Ryan helped the Warriors take a 13-6 halftime lead.

Phillips then threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Zach Laurinaitis in the third quarter to give Wilton a 20-6 lead.

Central answered with a touchdown and two-point conversion, but Philllips then scored on a 41-yard run to put the Warriors ahead, 27-14.

But the Hilltoppers rallied with two consecutive touchdowns to take a 28-27 lead. Phillips then ran for his second TD of the game and connected with Ethan Segall on the two-point conversion to put the Warriors in front to stay.
