Wilton field hockey team repeats as state champs
The Wilton High field hockey team defended its Class M state title with a 3-0 victory over Guilford in the championship game Saturday afternoon in Wethersfield.
The top-seeded Warriors ended the season with a 21-0-0-1 record. The team's only blemish was an overtime loss to Greenwich in the FCIAC finals.
Goals from Emilie Arrix and Joanne Nazareth gave Wilton a 2-0 halftime lead over 10th-seed Guilford in Saturday's state title contest.
Annie Lynch added a second-half goal to complete the scoring.
Wilton beat Branford, 2-1, in last season's Class M finals.
It was the fourth state championship in program history and the third since 2006.
