Wilton boys hoop team drops opener

The Wilton High boys basketball team couldn’t feed off the home crowd's energy on opening night at the Zeoli Field House.

With many of their fans wearing promotional Blue-Out T-shirts, the Warriors fell to Westhill, 59-53, on Wednesday in new head coach Joel Geriak's debut.

The Warriors held an 11-9 lead midway through the first quarter before the Vikings went on a 12-0 run to end the period up 21-11.
The Vikings maintained their double-digit lead in the second quarter and took a 31-20 advantage into halftime.
Wilton turned up the energy level in the third and chipped away at the Viking lead to trail by only four, 42-38, at the end of three.
But Westhill went on a 7-0 run and built a 53-43 lead with 4:12 left to play to seal the victory.
Wilton junior Eric Houska had an outstanding night from the floor, hitting for a career-high 28 points to lead all scorers.
Max Maudsley added nine points for the home team.
The Vikings were led by Ariel Delacruz with 16 points and Jeremiah Livingston with 15 points.
