Wilton Y gymnasts harvest gold at early invitational
Twenty-two members of the Wilton Y Gymnastics Team competed in Trumbull’s Harvest Invitational on Nov. 22.
Six teams from Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts were represented in the pre-season meet designed to test the readiness of new routines and skills and help high school gymnasts qualify for Y championship meets before they switch over to competing for their schools.
Wilton gymnasts proved their readiness. Every member attending qualified for leagues, and most also qualified for states and nationals.
Among the Level 3 competitors, 8-year-old Alyssa Mariani placed second on bars (9.1) and floor (9.0), and in the all-around, as well as third on beam.
In the 9-year-old division, Lauren Condon placed second on floor and beam and fourth on vault (9.0) and in the all-around.
Emma Incao, competing in the 10-year-old division, placed second on beam and fourth on vault and bars.
In the group for 11 years and older, Becky Arnowitz took first place on floor (9.05) and beam, second in the all-around, fourth on vault (9.05) and fourth on bars. Samantha Bauer won first place for bars, third on floor (9.0), fourth in the all-around, and fifth on vault (9.0) and beam. The team as a whole placed third.
Level 4 gymnasts were also successful. In the youngest age group, Sienna Morris took first place on floor, and second on beam (9.0), bars, vault, and in the all-around.
In the next age group, Peyton Ricco finished fifth on floor. In the next age group, Alyson Scheurkogel garnered first place on beam (9.0) and finished third in the all-around, fourth on vault (9.1), and fourth on floor. Donna Stepnowsky took second on bars and floor and fourth on beam and in the all-around. Grace Condon won first place for bars (9.1), fourth for beam and fifth in the all-around. Maddie Rosa scored a 9.0 on vault.
Level 5 sisters Erin and Emma Daugherty scored well and will be moving to Level 6. Erin took second on vault (9.55) and Emma finished fifth on bars and floor.
Level 6 Mia Karlehag finished second on beam (9.2) and bars, third on vault and in the all-around, and fifth on floor.
Both of Wilton’s Level 7 gymnasts at the meet were new to the level, and both placed in the top five on every event. Alyssa Jarrett won first place for beam (9.0), and took second for bars, third on floor and in the all-around, and fifth on vault. Kate Ginsburg placed third on vault (9.25), and fifth on bars, beam, floor, and in the all-around.
Wilton’s Level 8 squad took first place as a team.
In the junior division, Sam Huffman was the all-around champion, winning first place on all events and in the all-around. Marra Woodring placed second on bars and third on vault, beam, floor, and in the all-around.
In the senior division, Lizzie Berta was the all-around champion, and won first place on bars and vault and second place on floor and beam. Alessandra Uriarte won first place on beam (9.0) and floor, second in the all-around and on bars, and third on vault.
The Wilton Y gymnasts next compete at home on Dec. 19 at the second annual Snowflake Invitational.
