Wilton Junior Legion team headed to states

The Wilton Junior American Legion baseball team has clinched a berth in the upcoming state tournament.

Wilton won six of its final eight games to finish third in the Zone 4 standings with a 17-10 record, one game ahead of fourth-place Westport (16-11).

The top-five teams in the zone qualified for the state tournament, which begins next Saturday in Stamford. Seedings and first-round pairings have not yet been announced.

Wilton ended its regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Norwalk on Friday. Jack Mastrianna pitched a six-hitter as Wilton won the opener, 2-1. Colin Kahal followed with another strong pitching effort in the second game, going six innings in Wilton's 7-1 triumph.
