The Wilton High girls soccer team put forth an impressive effort but came up short on the scoreboard as it fell to FCIAC overall leader Fairfield Warde, 3-2, on Monday in Wilton.

The home team out-played the visitors for most of the game but couldn’t put home several scoring opportunities from close range.

The teams played most of the first to a scoreless tie until Warde scored with 10:05 left. The Mustangs played a long shot on goal that Wilton keeper Liz Forster got her hands on, but the ball hit off the post and trickled into the net for the score.

Casey Pearsall scored with 4:00 to play in the half to tie the score. Pearsall went high over the Warde goalie for the score. Pearsall was assisted by Lindsay Knutson.

The Mustangs took some fight out of the Warriors with a goal with just 23.1 seconds left before halftime to carry a 2-1 lead into the break.

Lauren Kozakiewicz tied the score for Wilton just 2:31 into the second half with a hard shot that went through the goalie's hands. Jayne Maccio assisted on the score.

But Warde took the lead for good with 8:52 left on a shot over the out-stretched arms of Forster.
