The Trumbull Golden Eagles remained perfect this season as they handed the Wilton girls soccer team its first loss of the season, 2-1, this afternoon at Kristine Lilly Field.

Trumbull is now 4-0 and Wilton is 2-1-1.

Trumbull scored with 3:36 to go in the first half with a centering pass from the wing. A Trumbull player in front of the net hit the post with her shot, but the ball careened into the goal for the 1-0 halftime lead.

The Warriors had several first-half chances and were in control of the field for most of the period.

Wilton broke through with a goal 4:51 into the second half. Tegan Helms lofted a pass from the right wing into the box, and Casey Pearsall headed the ball over the goalie and into the net to tie the game.

The score didn’t stay tied for long as the Eagles got the game-winner just 56 seconds later.. The Wilton defense thought the Trumbull player, who received a long through ball, was offsides and didn’t defend, but there was no whistle on the play. Wilton goalie Liz Forster came out of the net and made the initial save on the shot but couldn’t hold on to the ball. The Trumbull player spun around and reloaded for a second shot into the open goal.
