The Wilton High girls soccer team took a while to get going, but once the Warriors found their range the goals kept coming.
The result was a 7-0 victory over Norwalk on Wednesday at Lilly Field.
The home team got scores from seven different players, including senior co-captain Nicki Rutishauser, a defender, who scored her first varsity goal.
The game was scoreless until the 20th minute when Jayne Maccio pounded a shot from the 18-yard line over the Bears goalie for the 1-0 lead. Kayla O’Brien assisted on the goal.
Haley English made it 2-0 with a goal with 7:35 to play in the first half, assisted by Hannah Maatallah. The Warriors held the 2-0 lead at halftime.
Wilton (6-3-4) tallied five goals in the second half. Co-captain Tegan Helms opened the second-half scoring in the 42nd minute. Her score was followed by co-captain Casey Pearsall's goal for a 4-0 lead.
Rutishauser’s goal came next, followed by scores from Katherine Vincent and Maddie Kirchof. Kirchof's goal was off a penalty kick awarded to the Warriors with 6:49 remaining in the game.
The Warriors had 28 shots on goal, while Wilton goalie Liz Forster made only one save for the shutout.
