The Wilton High baseball team saw its hopes of clinching the eighth and final conference playoff berth end with the unfavorable outcome of two final regular-season games Thursday.

The combination of Wilton's 6-0 loss to New Canaan and Staples' 19-0 win over Bassick left the Warriors and Staples tied for the eighth spot in the FCIAC standings. But the Wreckers got the tiebreaker by virtue of their regular-season victory over Wilton.

New Canaan (16-4) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and then added single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Starter Ben Rappaport pitched into the fifth inning and took the loss for the Warriors (12-8, 10-8 FCIAC). J.T. Morin came on with no outs in the fifth and pitched the final three innings, allowing one run.
