NFA blanks Wilton baseball team in states
A four-run fourth inning produced the game's only scoring as the Norwich Free Academy baseball team defeated Wilton, 4-0, in a Class LL state tournament first-round game Tuesday in Norwich.
Wilton, the 18th seed, ends the season with a 12-9 record.
Two errors helped 15th-seed NFA in its decisive rally in the bottom of the fourth. With two runners on, Wilton third baseman Ben Rappaport fielded a grounder and tagged out a runner heading to third. But Rappaport's throw to first for the double play was off target, putting runners at second and third. Devin Robbins then followed with a two-run single.
Another single and a walk loaded the bases with two outs, and two more runs scored on Wilton shortstop Brett Phillips' error to make it 4-0.
Robbins held the Warriors scoreless, pitching a seven-hit shutout. He walked two and struck out five.
Wilton starter Andrew Jacobson also pitched a complete game, allowing four hits while walking two and striking out five.
