Paul Merolla of Wilton, a freshman right-handed pitcher for the Emory University men's baseball team, was named a Co-Rookie of the Year in the UAA (University Athletic Association) this season.

Merolla graduated from Wilton High in 2012, after making All-FCIAC first team as a senior co-captain for Coach Tim Eagen.

This spring, Merolla posted a 5-2 record, helping the Eagles to a 22-17 overall record. He started 10 of the 11 games he appeared in, posting a 3.41 earned run average. Merolla pitched a total of 60.2 innings, the second most on the team. He recorded 29 strikeouts and walked only 18 batters.

In the UAA conference tournament, Merolla logged the team’s only complete game for a pitcher.

This summer, Merolla will play for the Wilton Warriors in the Bridgeport Senior City League against other area collegiate players.
