The Wilton High girls varsity basketball team held off a late surge by Ridgefield to come away with a 42-40 victory Thursday night at the Zeoli Field House.

The Warriors had a nine-point lead going into the fourth quarter at 34-25, but the Tigers came all the way back to tie the game at 38-38 with 2:18 to play. Ridgefield used a 13-2 run to knot the score.

Wilton went up by two, 40-38, on a Haley English basket with 1:28 left. Ridgefield tied the game again on its next trip down the floor with 1:01 left. Erica Meyer’s put-back basket with 44 seconds to play put the Warriors back in front, 42-40.

Ridgefield (3-2) had two possessions to tie or take the lead, but the Warriors held on for the win, ending the Tigers' three-game winning streak.Wilton never trailed in the contest.

Wilton is now 4-2 on the season, 3-2 in league play. Meyer led the way for the Warriors with 13 points and Erin Cunningham chipped in 12.
