The Wilton High girls basketball team opened its season with a 55-42 loss to Darien on Wednesday night at the Zeoili Fieldhouse.

The Warriors' only lead of the game came after the first basket, as the Warriors had to play from behind the rest of the way.

Wilton got within one point at 33-32, late in the third quarter, but Darien closed the period up five, 37-32.

Darien opened the final quarter on a 5-0 run to build a 10-point lead. The Warriors could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way and were forced to foul to try to get back into the game.

The Blue Wave used three-pointers in the first quarter to build a 17-8 lead after eight minutes.Wilton chipped away in the second period and trailed 28-21 at the half.

Erica Meyer led the scoring for Wilton with 11 points, followed by Alyssa Malvarosa with 10 points and Erin Cunningham with eight points.

Darien was led by Meg Marren and Kelly Karczewski, who each netted 18 points.
