Fifteen members of the Wilton Y Gymnastics Team competed at the YMCA National Gymnastics Championships, held in Long Beach, Calif., July 1-3. Approximately 1,500 gymnasts from 28 states competed at the meet.

Graduating senior Lizzie Berta led the way, as she qualified for the two-day Level 8 all-around finals, finishing 14th in the nation. Berta participated in the senior dinner aboard the Queen Mary.

In Level 3, Ella Arghirescu missed being the all-around champion by just two-tenths of a point. She placed ninth on vault (9.0), second on bars (9.25), ninth on beam, fifth on floor (9.175), and second in the all-around.

In the upper age group at Level 3, Simona Gheorghe placed fourth on bars, fifth on beam (9.225), and seventh in the all-around.

In Level 4, Ashley Umhoefer’s score was only .05 behind the all-around champion. She placed third on vault (9.0), fourth on bars (9.05), eighth on beam, first on floor (9.35), and second in the all-around.

In the next Level 4 age division, Donna Stepnowsky placed fifth on beam, fourth on floor (9.15), and sixth in the all-around. Alyson Scheurkogel placed 10th on beam and sixth on floor (9.0).

In the upper Level 4 age division, Maddie Rosa placed third on vault, eighth on bars, fourth on floor (9.05), and sixth in the all-around. Ava Walker placed third on beam.

In Level 5, Emily D’Onofrio placed sixth on both vault and bars, fifth on beam, and third on floor (9.0) and in the all-around. Jessica Wu placed ninth on bars, third on beam, and sixth in the all-around.

In the upper age group at Level 5, Nicole Beecher placed ninth on vault and eighth on bars.

In Level 6, Rachel Esslinger finished just out of the top 10 on vault.

In Level 7, Kate Ginsburg placed 10th on beam, while Kayla Heber placed sixth on vault (9.175).

In Level 8, Berta also placed 10th on floor (9.125) in addition to her 14th place in the all-around.

Also competing at Level 8, Grace Breen placed seventh on bars.
