At this year's downtown Holiday Stroll on Dec. 4, according to town website WiltonCT.org, "in a break with tradition," the first selectman will not join Santa atop a Wilton Fire Department fire truck for his annual "sleigh ride" into Wilton Center.

Instead, Santa will be accompanied by co-captains of the Wilton High 2015 state championship field hockey team, Jillian Mahon and Amanda Hendry.

On Nov. 21, the Warriors' 1-0 overtime win against Cheshire, with the game-winning goal scored by Mahon, earned the team its fourth state title in five years, and first Class L title since 1976.

Goalie Hendry made a crucial save in early overtime, turning away a shot that could have ended the game.

Friday, Wilton's First Selectman Lynne Vanderslice will be on the Town Green with others awaiting the arrival of Santa and the champions.

When they reach the green, 2015's ceremonial lighting of the town holiday tree will commence.

The sleigh ride will begin promptly at the start of the two-hour Holiday Stroll, at 5:30.

The annual Holiday Stroll is a Wilton Chamber of Commerce event.
