FCIAC post-season resumes Nov. 6; co-champs to be named
For the second straight year, extreme weather conditions and widespread power outages have forced the FCIAC to reset its post-season tournament schedule, as many of its member schools and their communities deal with the recovery from Hurricane Sandy this week.
The FCIAC announced that it will resume its playoff schedule next Tuesday, Nov. 6, with field hockey, boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball and girls swimming teams in action. The football season has also been modified to account for this weekend’s games, which have been postponed.
The FCIAC decision follows the CIAC’s announcement earlier today that it was the postponing the start of its field hockey, boys and girls soccer and girls volleyball state tournaments until Thursday, Nov. 8. That left a window for the FCIAC to finish its tournaments, even in an abbreviated form.
The FCIAC posted the following statement on its website:
“It is very important to the FCIAC to maintain the integrity of the fall championship season. Given the number of schools that are not in session, and given the starting dates of the CIAC Tournaments, the FCIAC has made the following decisions: Boys soccer, girls soccer, field hockey and volleyball will declare co-champions from the semifinal winners. The swimming and diving championships have been modified to timed finals only. Football dates have been modified to ensure the football championship game is preserved.”
The new schedule is as follows:
Boys soccer semifinals will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Fairfield Ludlowe: No. 3 Greenwich vs. No. 2 Ridgefield at 5 p.m.; No. 4 Wilton vs. No. 1 Norwalk at 7 p.m.
Girls soccer semifinals will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Norwalk High School: No. 3 Ridgefield vs. No. 2 St. Joseph at 5 p.m.; No. 5 Greenwich vs. No. 1 Trumbull at 7 p.m.
