Nearly 1,000 runners from 24 schools competed at last Saturday’s 24th Annual Wilton Cross Country Invitational at Allen’s Meadow.

The Wilton High girls cross country team finished second in the Varsity Large School race, while the WHS boys were fifth in the Varsity Large School race.

For the girls, senior Alosha Southern led the way as she placed tenth in a time of 16:10 for the 2.8 mile course. Senior Alex Fiesel was 12th (16:14), junior Keiley Gaston was 18th (16:23), junior Sarah Healy was 21st (16:26) and junior Casey Chase was 30th (16:54) to round out Wilton’s top five.

Glastonbury won the Large School division on the girls side with 26 points, followed by Wilton (55), Kellenberg (65), Simsbury (126), Greenwich (158), Ridgefield (170), Ludlowe (201), Trumbull (212), Danbury (252), Brien McMahon (257) and Norwalk (293).

Gabi Richichi of New Fairfield, a sophomore, won the race in a time of 15:09.

Immaculate won the Varsity Small School division with 51 points, with New Canaan taking second with 59 points.

The Wilton boys were paced by sophomore Spencer Brown, who finished fourth overall in a time of 16:42 for 3.15 miles. Rounding out the Wilton scoring were seniors Matt Caswell (28th, 17:53), Owen Mellin (32nd, 18:00) and Spencer Taylor (38th, 18:09), and junior Kris Langholm (74th, 19:05).

Chris Alvarado of Fairfield Prep won the race with a time of 15:56. Prep won the Large School division with 31 points, followed by Greenwich (73), Trumbull (78), Norwalk (89), Wilton (102), Danbury (119), Ludlowe (200) and Ridgefield (214).

Darien won the Varsity Boys Small School division with 27 points.

The Wilton freshmen girls turned in an impressive performance, winning the Freshman Girls race by two points (66 to 68) over Greenwich, and beating 12 other teams.

Mary Lynch won the race with a time of 9:30 for 1.5 miles.

Wilton finished 11th in the JV Girls race. Deidre Lewin of Kellenberg won the race in a time of 17:15 for 2.5 miles.

Sebastian Oe of Greenwich won the Freshmen Boys race, finishing the 1.5-mile course in 7:56. Darien won the team title with 85 points. Wilton was fourth with 127 points.

Danbury won the JV Boys race. Eric Van der Els of Brien McMahon was the first finisher, completing the 3.15-mile course in 18:25.
