The Wilton High boys soccer team scored with 5:24 left to play to come away with a 1-1 tie in its season opener against the Greenwich Cardinals on Thursday evening at Kristine Lilly Field.

Neither team scored in the first half, although the Warriors had several quality chances.

Greenwich took a 1-0 lead just under 10 minutes into the second half on an indirect kick from midfield that was sent deep into the box. A Greenwich player was able place a shot in the net over Wilton goalie Peter Como.

The Warrior goal also came off an indirect kick after a Cardinal foul and yellow card outside the box. David Brown took the kick, sending the ball toward the far post, where Matthew Chann put it the back of the net. Chann was pulled up into the offensive zone from his defensive position on the play.

The Cardinals were issued a total of three yellow cards in the physical contest. The Greenwich coach was given a red card after the game for confronting the referees.

Como was credited with six saves, while Wilton had 15 shots on net.
