Boys soccer: Wilton edges Ludlowe on Aravena's goal

The Wilton boys’s varsity soccer team picked up its fifth win of the season Monday afternoon by defeating the visiting Fairfield Ludlowe Falcons, 1-0.

The Warriors were coming off their first loss of the season on Saturday, 5-3, to the Ridgefield Tigers at Tiger Hollow Stadium.The team’s record now stands at 5-1-1.

In Monday's game, neither team could find the net in a first half that had back-and-forth action, with the Falcons clearly out-playing the home team.

Robert Aravena scored the game’s only goal 4:26 into the second half, assisted by Sam Slater. Slater sent a centering pass from the left wing to Aravena, who was driving toward the net from his right wing. Aravena put the ball into the corner of the net for the score.

The Warriors had a chance to add to their lead on a penalty kick with 6:21 left to play, but Ludlowe goalie Robert Arrigio made a diving save of David Brown's attempt.

Peter Como was in net for the Warriors and had seven saves in the game.
