Boys lax: St. Anthony's downs Wilton, 14-4

The St. Anthony's Friars made their long trip from Huntington, N.Y., worthwhile as they easily put away the Wilton High boys lacrosse team, 14-4, on Saturday afternoon at Fujitani Field.

The game got off to a slow scoring start, as the Warriors ran time off the clock on their first-quarter possessions. The Friars took a 2-1 lead with 2:51 remaining in the first quarter and never looked back. St. Anthony's added another score to make it 3-1 as time expired in the first.

The Warriors got a goal 17 seconds into the second quarter to pull within one at 3-2. But Wilton would score only twice more over the remaining 32 minutes.

A combination of good defensive and goalie play by the Friars, unforced Warrior errors, and shots off the mark, curtailed the Warrior offense. On the defensive side, the Warriors left their opponents unmarked in front of the goal, were slow to react to the Friars' ball movement, and didn’t support their goalie.

The Friars outscored Wilton, 6-2, in the second quarter, 3-1 in the third, and 2-0 in the fourth quarter.

St. Anthony's got a big game from Dylan Malloy, who found the back of the net seven times. Matt Koemen added four goals and two assists for the visitors.

Wilton goals were by Brendan Devane, Christan Hansson, Tommy Hayes and Ryder Farmakis.

The loss drops the Warriors' overall record to 3-5. The three wins have come against FCIAC teams with a combined 1-10 conference record.
