Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 50798 earned their first aid patch in November after spending a Sunday morning with the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps. About 20 girls and their leaders attended the interactive talk at the team\u2019s headquarters in the Town Hall\/emergency responders complex on Route 7. Coordinated by corps Vice President Brian McDermott, the talk was lead by EMT Mary Navarro, assisted by EMTs Hayley Siegel and Nick Koenigsberger. During the 90-minute session, the girls learned several critical lessons about how to deal with an emergency. Among them: The right and wrong reasons to call 911. How to help those overheated or suffering heat stroke. How to help those suffering frostbite or hypothermia. The immediate response to severe bleeding or bruising. How to respond to animal bite or insect on themselves or others. What to do in the case of a severe allergic reaction. How to stop a nosebleed. Most importantly, how to make sure they are safe first in all of these situations. Following the talk, the girls were given a tour of an ambulance and all emergency response capabilities. Troop 50798 is led by Wilton residents Emma Halliwell, Brandy Morin and Susan Shultz. The troop expressed their gratitude to the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps by making a collective donation.
