Officers of the Wilton Police Department will be at Dunkin’ Donuts in Wilton on Friday, June 3, to build relationships with the people they protect and serve, and discuss community issues over coffee. All community members are invited to attend the event, which will run from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 35 Danbury Road. “The majority of contact law enforcement has with the public happens during emergencies or emotional situations,” a police press release said. “Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street,” the release said. Coffee with a Cop aims to correct that by breaking down barriers and allowing for relaxed, one-on-one interaction. “We hope that community members will feel comfortable enough to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” said Wilton Police Chief Robert Crosby. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.” Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are held across the country. Anyone with questions may call Wilton police headquarters at 203-834-6260 and ask for Lt. Rob Cipolla, or email him directly at email@example.com.
