The Wilton Chamber of Commerce’s annual Golf Classic is returning for its 20th outing. At the Redding Country Club on May 23, Chamber members and guests can team up and enter the Corporate Challenge, where they’ll have the chance to win the Wilton Cup. Shotgun start is at 10 a.m. “You get there, register at about 8, 8:30, have a little breakfast, and then at 10 you’re out on the course,” Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Debra Hanson told The Bulletin. The format is four-person team golf, best-ball or scramble, and awards will be given for the longest drive, closest to the pin, hole-in-one, and more. Corporate foursomes already registered include Fairfield County Bank, Four Seasons Tennis Club, Reynolds & Rowella, Gregory and Adams, and Village Market. Individuals are welcome, too; they’ll be grouped with others who registered individually. According to Hanson, the annual Golf Classic is not only a “fun” event, it’s a “great” networking opportunity. “I can attest to the real, genuine networking opportunity,” Hanson said. “I’ve gotten very positive results participating in the Golf Classic in my past career as a salesperson and ad director, connecting through networking on the golf course.” Reservations may be made by calling 203-762-0567. The cost of $225 per player includes greens fees and cart, welcome cocktails and breakfast, lunch on the patio, hole-in-one and on-the-green awards, and prizes. Proceeds will go to supporting the Wilton Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber’s scholarship program, through which a scholarship is annually awarded to one commendable high school senior. “The Golf Classic hasn’t been at the Redding Country Club for a couple of years, but we’re excited to go back. They’ve made some improvements to the course, which was already interesting and challenging,” Hanson said. Hanson said there’s still time to register, but she encourages people to put their names in by the beginning of the week prior to the event. “We are still looking for golfers,” she said.
