Youth orchestra concert

Five student musicians from Wilton — Johnny Shiller on cello, Jason Garrelick on trombone, Fiona O'Halloran on trumpet, Krithika Natarajan on violin, and Vishnu Duriseti on alto saxophone — will perform with the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra in its s first concert of the season on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 4, at the Ridgefield High School auditorium.

The String Ensemble, led by Justin Elkins, will perform arrangements from the Renaissance and Baroque periods by Telemann, Vivaldi, and Dowland, and will include Masterpiece Theater’s signature theme, which was written by Mouret in the 18th Century. With a contemporary turn to band repertoire, the Wind Ensemble’s selections will include the Blue Ridge Saga by James Swearingen and Vertigo by Chris Bernotas, under the direction of Albert Montecalvo. The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by youth orchestra Music Director Eric Mahl, will present works from the Romantic period by Russian composers — Rachmaninoff’s Capriccio on Gypsy Themes and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol.

The orchestra will perform in the Clune Center on Feb. 26.
