Woodcock seeks ‘Friends’
Woodcock Nature Center has a number of opportunities for people to get involved with nature, beginning with the first meeting of its new group, Friends of Woodcock, on Wednesday, May 18.
Friends of Woodcock is the nature center’s initiative to form a 20-member group that would interact with the nature center’s board of directors and provide feedback and ideas for things like programming, pricing and events.
Friends of Woodcock members would be expected to meet with the board of directors two times a year, take occasional surveys, and commit to participating in one volunteer activity once a year.
During the group’s first meeting, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Friends of Woodcock members will have the chance to enjoy wine, beer and light hors d'oeuvres, mingle, and discuss upcoming events with board of directors members and Woodcock’s new executive director, Michael Rubbo.
Discussion topics will include:
- Evening Under the Stars, which is moving to mid-September;
- Woodcock’s 5K run on Sunday, Oct. 16;
- Potential topics for adult programming;
- Thoughts on programs for middle and high school youth.
Friends of Woodcock’s second meeting will take place in the fall.
