Woman’s Club gives back for Thanksgiving
The Wilton Woman’s Club was busy Thanksgiving week making sure families in the Wilton community had all they needed for a festive holiday meal.
On Monday, Nov. 19, different items — from turkey and pumpkin pie to after-dinner mints and candles — were donated to complete Thanksgiving baskets for families in town.
Woman’s Club member Dianne deWitt collected the donations, put the baskets together at Comstock Community Center, and sent them to Wilton Social Services, which then distributed them to 70 families.
The day before Thanksgiving, Woman’s Club members cooked hot Thanksgiving dishes for homebound residents as part of the club’s signature, annual program to assist Wilton Social Services.
Everything from turkey, green beans, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and gravy were taken to Comstock Community Center, where additional club members assembled and wrapped the meals before delivering them to 45 households in Wilton where homebound residents are unable to shop and make meals for themselves. Helpers included children of Wilton Woman’s Club members, as well as members of the club’s Junior Leadership Program.
