Wiltonian plans Yale jazz festival

As one of the programming coordinators of the Yale Undergraduate Jazz Collective, Elliot Connors, a 2016 Wilton High School graduate and English and computer science major at Yale University, is planning the sixth annual Jazz Festival at Yale in New Haven.

The two-day-long, student-organized event kicks off April 13, and will feature world-renowned jazz musicians like Grammy Award-winning trumpet player and pianist Nicholas Payton, award-winning jazz tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana, and jazz multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Steve Wilson. The festival will be free and open to the public. Information: https://bit.ly/2EmOkzm.

In high school, Connors played trumpet in the Connecticut All State Jazz Ensemble and was a member of the teen jazz band Black Tie Affair and Wilton High School’s Jazz I band. In 2015, he won best jazz soloist at the Music Adjudication competition and band director at the time, Chip Gawle, said he was “the finest high school jazz trumpet soloist [he had] ever heard heard in [his] 34-year career.”
